Get in touch
Call Woodlands Day School at (804) 557-5035. Tell us your child's age and the days you need. You will speak with someone who can explain which programs fit your schedule. Then you will know what is available for your family.
Tour the room
Come see the room your child would join. You will meet the teachers who spend the day there. Look at the play spaces, the outdoor area, and where children rest. Ask anything you want to understand.
Enroll and settle in
Complete the enrollment forms and plan a first week that suits your child. Think about drop-off times, pickup, and what helps your child feel at home. The teachers will work with you on a gentle start.
What to have ready
Most families gather a few things before the first day. Enrollment forms come first. Then a health form and immunization record. Add emergency contacts and the names of people allowed to pick up your child.
Pack a change of clothes that can stay at school. Send outdoor gear for the season, because children go outside every day. A nap item helps if your child rests. A small comfort object can make the day easier. Label everything with your child's name.
Before the first day, talk through the drop-off routine with your child. Decide who will bring them and who will pick them up. Tell the teachers how you would like to hear about the day. Small details like these help the first morning go smoothly.
The first weeks
The first days are often shorter. Your child may want to bring something familiar from home. A teacher will greet them by name at the door. That greeting is the start of the routine.
At pickup, teachers tell you how the day went. They mention what your child played, what they ate, and how they rested. Most children settle into the rhythm within a few weeks. You can ask questions at any point.

What should my child bring on the first day?
Most families pack a change of clothes, a comfort item, and outdoor gear for the season. Everything should be labelled with your child's name. Ask the school if you are unsure about anything.

What does a typical day include?
A day at Woodlands is built around play, with at least two hours of outdoor learning each day when weather permits. Children arrive, play, and learn in open-ended ways. Meals and rest fit around that. Pickup ends the day.
How will I know how my child is doing?
Parents usually hear about the day at pickup, when the teacher shares what your child did and how they seemed. You can also ask for more detail whenever you want it. If something needs a longer conversation, the teacher will find a quiet moment to talk it through with you.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
Schedules depend on your child's age group and what openings we have at the time. The best way to find out what is available for your family is to ask us directly, and we can talk through the options together.
What if there is no place right now?
If a place is not open right now, you can ask us to let you know when one comes up for your child's age. We keep a note of who is waiting and will get in touch if something opens.
