How we see children
We see children as capable and curious. The school blends Reggio, Montessori, and traditional play-based preschool. What ties it together is play. Open-ended, joyful, purposeful play is how young children make sense of the world. No worksheets. WDS was founded in the summer of 2025 by a mom of two toddlers who wanted more childcare options, more learning, more creativity, and a place where her children could learn, create, explore, and grow.
Woodlands Day School is a state licensed preschool. We opened in the summer of 2025, founded by a mom of two toddlers who wanted more childcare options, more learning, and more creativity for her own children. We are currently enrolling for very limited spots for the current school year. Registration for the 2026 to 2027 school year is open, with availability in all age groups. We would love to show you around.
What you notice in practice
Teachers kneel to a child's eye level and listen. They follow a child's interest rather than steer it, and they know when to step back. Small groups let a teacher notice what each child is working on. Then they plan the next day around it. That is the work. It looks quiet from the outside.
The rooms are set up so children can reach what they need and choose what to do. Materials sit in open baskets and on low shelves. The day has a rhythm, with long blocks of play, outdoor time, meals, and rest, so children know what comes next without being hurried through it. We keep at least two hours of outdoor learning each day, weather permitting.
How we work with families
At pickup, teachers tell you what your child did, not just how the day went. Maybe they spent twenty minutes at the water table, or told a long story at circle, or finally climbed the small hill outside. Those details are the report. If you have a question about your child's day, ask your teacher, and we will talk it through with you.
